Santa Lucia Beaches
The Santa Lucía beach has quickly turned into a tourist destination and very popular among western tourists who come within organized trips (travel packages) being an excellent place to rest, enjoy from calmness, comfort offered by a good accommodation at any of its hotels and practice diving among many of its attractions. Watching a sun set in this region is a true spectacle which will make you feel in paradise.
Santa Lucía has a long coral reef, the second in the planet after the Australian one and the biggest of the Western Hemisphere, which turns it into a giant pool. It forms part of the reefs barriers from the north of the Cuban archipelago, spreading from Punta Hicacos (Varadero beach) and beyond the eastern boundaries of Camaguey province.
Across the beach and with distances ranging from 200 to 1500 meters, you may enjoy from an original scenario: a long strip of corals breaking the waves like if they were new seashore. Between the barrier and the shoreline, the sea reaches depth of nearly 3 meters. Corals allow keeping a great variety of fishes and a sea flora which is the perfect spot for underwater diving and surface fishing.
It would be great if you visit the coral reef at La Boca, a small town located at 5 miles west from the hotel facilities. La Boca is one of the most beautiful places in Cuba, extremely picturesque with its sand strip half moon which comes out over the Santa Lucia’s sand fringe with high summer or mild winter weather temperatures thus making a nice climate of its beaches to enjoy from a quiet bath at the sea like one of the most pleasant sensations during holydays in Cuba with this perfect combination of sun, sand, salt residues and clear waters.
Best season to visit the beaches is from December to April, and also the most popular season. Weather is in its fresher and drier point during these months, though it is much hotter here than in North America and Europe, which grants a nice stay and full enjoyment of its turquoise waters of the resort.
